Involuntary unemployment means the loss of your employment income (salary, fees, wages) as a result of:
- Individual or mass layoff
- General strike
- Termination by employer
- Unionized labor dispute
- Lockout
You, as the first named insured or certificate holder, are eligible for Involuntary Unemployment coverage if:
- You have an unconditional obligation to pay the landlord
- You are not a partnership, corporation or association
- You pay your premium
- You are gainfully employed - you are working for salary or wages at least 30 hours a week, or for at
least 9 months out of the year, are not a seasonal employee, an independent contractor, or self-employed.
You must be involuntary unemployed for 30 consecutive days in order to be eligible for benefits. The coverage is retroactive,
so the benefits will be payable from the first day of involuntary unemployment after a 30 days waiting period.
This coverage pays a portion of your rent up to 2 months and payment will be made to your landlord.
To be eligible for Involuntary Unemployment benefits, you must:
- Be the first named insured or certificate holder unless the first named insured or certificate holder
is ineligible or a premium has been paid for more than one named insured
- Be unemployed for at least 30 days
- Provide us with proof of your involuntary unemployment and adequate proof of your rental expense
- Qualify for unemployment benefits under a state unemployment law
- Register for work with a state employment office or recognized employment agency after the last day worked
and remain registered during the claim period. Please review your policy endorsement for complete
details.
- Become unemployed during the policy or certificate period
